Response to Michael Gove's announcement

Blackpool Council's Executive Director of Children, Adult and Family Services, David Lund has released a statement following the announcement by the Government that the Building Schools for the Future programme is under review.
Blackpool wanted to transform 13 schools as part of the project, but has been told that 10 of the schemes are currently stopped pending the outcome of a national review of the project.

The Council is set to have further discussions with the Government on the remaining schemes at Highfield, St Mary's and the Mountford Centre (pupil referral unit) and is very hopeful that these will go ahead as planned.

David Lund said "The fact that we have a contractor in place helps a little and means that we need to convince the government that the plans for our two sample schools are robust enough to proceed. We await the exact detail on how this will be processed."

The Director added; "I am obviously disappointed with the current position, but remain hopeful that the government will come up with a suitable alternative to ensure that Blackpool schools will still receive investment."
