Highfield Humanities College is a co-educational comprehensive school with special school status in the subjects of History, Geography and Religious Education (Humanities).
For the school, being a Humanities college means that the strength of these subject areas will be used to drive forward improvements to teaching, learning and assessment throughout the school.
Specialising in the Humanities subjects gives the school a particular role to play in developing citizenship, good human relations and a sense of social responsibility. A focus is made on humanitarian issues on all levels; personal, local, national and global. Students are helped to become more reflective, they are encouraged to develop attributes such as tolerance, empathy and understanding. Students are educated to contribute positively to a multi-cultural, fast changing world.
At Highfield a wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities encourage involvement and development of skills and talents. Traditional standards of discipline, courtesy and good manners are upheld whilst the school attempt to provide a supportive and caring environment in which each student can develop self-discipline and self-reliance.
“Working Together” is a key phrase throughout school life at Highfield. Truly successful education is a partnership between School, students and parents.
The Authority plans for Highfield to be a newly built school as some of the buildings date back to the 1930’s when the school was first opened.
